Lac La Biche welcomes the world in 2024!

2024 World Archery Field Championships are coming to Lac La Biche

LAC LA BICHE, CA - World Archery has announced that Lac La Biche will host the 2024 World Archery Field Championships from September 16-22, 2024. The town has a rich history in hosting archery tournaments, having played host to the World Archery 3D Championships in 2019, which were very well received. Canada saw great success at the recent 2022 World Archery Field Championships, held in Yankton, South Dakota, where Dustin Watson was crowned World Champion with his gold medal in the U21 men’s compound category.

The 2024 World Archery Field Championships will showcase 3 equipment disciplines (compound, recurve, and barebow) and 2 age categories (U21 and 21+). The Championships features a combination of target courses in the woods and the countryside, with the Finals taking place at the golf course overlooking the beauty of Lac La Biche.

Rene Schaub, President of Lakeland Archers and Chair of the Host Committee brings a great deal of event experience to the table and is excited to bring the competition to northern Alberta. “It has been my life dream to welcome the world not once, but twice, to our great little community. It has been an honour as the Chair of the Hosting Committee to bring this World Championship event to Canada for the first time.”

Lakeland Archers in cooperation with Archery Canada is looking forward to welcoming potentially 250 athletes from 30+ countries. It’s an exciting opportunity for the sport at all levels as field archery is a discipline with high potential for growth in Canada.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome the archery world to Canada in 2024,” says President of Archery Canada, Aaron Bull. “This will be the third archery World Championship awarded to Canada in recent years, all in different disciplines. It speaks to the health of the sport across the country.”

The Canadian athletes are looking forward to being able to compete on home soil, but with international calibre level competition. “Representing your country on home soil has to be the biggest honour any athlete could dream of and to have the World Field Championships come home to Canada is simply a dream come true,” says Cory Smandych, one of the Canadian athletes who attended the 2022 World Field Archery Championships in Yankton. “There is no better person or place to be chosen to host than Rene Schaub and the Lakeland Archers. They have unmatched community support and volunteers that impress time after time. I’m excited to try for a spot to shoot in Lac La Biche at the World Field Championships in 2024.”
