Starting the new year right!

posted Jan 20, 2013, 2:13 PM by LLB Archers   [ updated Jan 20, 2013, 2:16 PM ]

I hope that everyone had a great holiday season. With that behind us now, it’s time to start a very exciting new year. The ATAA executive has started working on a new Strategic plan that will address all of your concerns from the survey sent out, and by using more communication will make a better Association for all members. We are also conducting a governance review process that involves revisions to the Association Bylaw and Constitution. This will be ready for the AGM.

From January to the end of March there is the Archery Canada Mail Match where you can compete with rest of Canada by mailing in scores. On Jan 12th and 13th, we hosted the first High Performance Clinic for Archers 11-21 years of age. This clinic was put together by Wayne Richey and was hosted by the Lakeland Archers in Lac La Biche. We are hoping this will be held every year in different parts of the province. We are also hoping to host High Performance clinics for adults in the near future. On Jan 19th and 20th, there will be a Judge’s Clinic held in Red Deer for Judge Candidates and Provincial Judges. This Clinic will be taught by one of the world’s top international judges, Dion Buhagiar . Please try to send a candidate from your club to help supply the demand for registered shoots. On Jan 19th and 20th, Lethbridge is hosting the Indoor 3D Provincials. On February 3rd, the ATAA junior mail match will begin, for all clubs to participate in. On Feb 15th to 18th, the Medicine Hat Saamis Archers will host the Indoor 3D Nationals in Medicine Hat. March 1st to the 3rd will be the Canadian Indoor Championships, held regionally. March 23th and 24th is the Indoor Target Provincials in Lac La Biche. Please try to attend the AGM as there are lots of changes coming.

There are lots of shoots hosted for 3D and Target all over the Province. Please check the ATAA website for times and details. As we start a New Year, let us forget the past and work together for a better future. See you in the lanes!

Attention Archers: Provincial Records!!!

For any archers that had beat a current Alberta Provincial Record and have already submitted judge-signed scorecards to Paige Farries, could you please resubmit them to her.  All records were lost and therefore she requires all the scorecards to be sent to her again.

You can email them to Paige Farries at athletes-rep@ataa-org.ca or follow the instructions on the ATAA Provincial Records page, just click on the link below:

We would like to get them updated quickly as there are many archers waiting for the updated Provincial Records list to be posted. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter!

As the colors of the scenery start to change, it is the sign that our outdoor season in done and it’s time to move Indoor. It’s time for archery clubs across Alberta to fire up their youth programs and start another Indoor season. With the Olympics and Paralympics finished in London and films like the Hunger Games, there is a buzz of excitement in the air for archery. One of our young archery best described it as “a very cool family sport”. With growing membership across the province it is the responsibly of the executives to keep the ship going in the right direction. This means that we need more coaches and judges. If you think you would like one of these positions to help your club and ATAA please go to the web site and give your name and become involved.

The executive is currently working on many projects such as a trailer with targets, stands, timer and power plant that would help smaller clubs to help them put on an Indoor or Outdoor shoot. We are now working on strategic planning to give direction and policies for our organization for the next 3-5 years. We are also working on High performance clinics and planning for the next Canada Winter Games in 3 years. The planning for the Alberta Winter Games in Canmore and Banff in 2014 is well underway. We are updating the website with forms and information on how to start a club, register a shoot and many more to make it easier for your clubs. Enjoy the new archery season with your families and friends until we meet again.
